At Times We Don't Know the Story Until It's Almost Over...
We don't realize it at times but sometimes a story is unfolding right in front of us, and we don't even realize it until it's almost finished.
That's what happened with a recent closing.
We go through a process when we prepare a listing that we've followed so many times before. We hire the stager, the appraiser, the photographer, prepare the marketing and more. We do everything we can to present the property in its best light. We put it out there, and we wait for the right buyer to come along.
I've always believed that, more often than not, the person who's supposed to have the home is the person who eventually finds it.
But sometimes there's a little more to the story.
In this case, and as everything progressed, we began to realize there were connections that made this particular sale a little more special.
We didn't know it all in the beginning. We were simply doing what we do, working through the details, handling the things, and moving toward the closing table.
And then, somewhere along the way, the story comes together.
That's one of the things I love about real estate. We can plan and prepare, market a property, negotiate a contract, and work through all the details. But we can't plan the people who will walk through the door or the connections that may already exist. Sometimes those things just fall into place.
And this time, they did.
After closing we all met for dinner to celebrate.
What a special evening!
It started with a house to sell. We did all the things we were supposed to do, and along came the family who would make it their home. And somewhere in between, the story was unfolding.
After more than 40 years in real estate, I still find that pretty remarkable.
We spend so much of our time focused on the details of a transaction, and believe me, there are plenty of details! But at the end of the day, it's the people and the connections that stay with me.
This was one of those reminders that real estate really does follow life.
